STATEMENT OF FAITH
WHat we Believe
This is the core of who we are as a church body.
THE HOLY BIBLE AND THE SCRIPTURES
We believe the Scriptures in the Holy Bible are the revealed will of God and the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God, the Creator of heaven and earth. We believe the Bible was written by holy men as they were moved upon by the Spirit of God and that the New Testament, in particular, is the Christian guide for doctrine, faith, and conduct pleasing to God.
2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:19-21
THE GODHEAD
We believe in a triune Godhead who exists in three distinct persons; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe God the Father is greater than all, the Son has existed with the Father from the beginning and is the Word made flesh, and the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son.
Genesis 1:1 & 26-27, 2 Corinthians 13:14, John 1:1 & 14, John 14:16, Acts 1:4-5
JESUS CHRIST
We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God and God, the Son. We believe He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and that His blood cleanses all who believe in Him from sin. His crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension to the right hand of God were the perfect sacrifice or propitiation to redeem mankind back to God and destroy the works of the devil.
Matthew 1:18-23, 1 John 3:8, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
COMMUNION
We believe that Communion, the Lord’s Supper, is an ordinance established by Jesus Christ and is for believers only. This doctrine is practiced regularly to commemorate the covenant that was ratified through the broken body and shed blood of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mark 14:22-25, 1 Corinthians 11:23-29
THE FALL AND THE REDEMPTION
We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God to have fellowship with Him, but through Adam’s disobedience sin and death came into the world causing man to be separated from God. We believe that because man is incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through his own effort God gave the gift of salvation which is only obtained by grace through faith in the atoning work of Jesus Christ.
Genesis 1:27, Romans 3:21-26, Romans 5:12- 17
ETERNAL LIFE OR SALVATION THROUGH THE NEW BIRTH ONLY
We believe that man’s first step toward salvation is godly sorrow that works in repentance. The New Birth, being born again or spiritually regenerated is necessary for everyone and is the manifestation of union with God or eternal life.
John 3:3–5, 2 Corinthians 7:10, 1 John 5:12
WATER BAPTISM
We believe baptism in water by immersion is a direct commandment of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and is for those who have been born again only. Water baptism is a symbol of identification with Jesus in His death, burial, and resurrection.
Matthew 28:19, Romans. 6:4, Acts 8:35-39
THE BAPTISM WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe that Jesus baptizes with the Holy Spirit and fire and that this is a promise from God the Father for all believers. We believe it is an experience distinct from and subsequent to the New Birth. It is not necessary to spend eternity with God, but very necessary for an empowered life and effective Christian witness and service. We believe this experience is initially evidenced by speaking in other tongues as the Holy Spirit gives utterance and will position the believer for manifestations of spiritual gifts to be used in ministering to others and edifying the Body of Christ.
Acts 1:8, Acts 2:1-4, 1 Corinthians 12:4-11
SANCTIFICATION
We believe in the doctrine of sanctification as a definite experience and also a progressive work of grace. We believe entire sanctification is the will of God and begins with the New Birth and continues through renewing the mind with God’s Word.
1 Thessalonians 4:3, Acts 20:32, 2 Timothy 2:21
DIVINE HEALING
We believe that healing for the physical body is included in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ and is a blood covenant right for every believer. Sickness and disease are a result of sin and the curse of the law and healing is a Divine benefit. We believe the lying symptoms of sickness and disease may be removed and replaced with healing through faith in the will and Word of God. We believe there is a law of contact and transmission and several methods through which healing power is released and received; the prayer of faith, the laying on of hands, anointing with oil, prayer cloths, spiritual gifts, etc.
Mark 16:18, 1 Peter 2:24, 3 John 2, 1 Corinthians 12:8-10
TOTAL PROSPERITY
We believe that the Scriptures are very clear that God’s will for man is prosperity in every area. The New Birth is prosperity for the spirit of man. Peace that passes understanding is prosperity for the mind of man. Divine healing is prosperity for the body of man. God has also made provision for man to be abundantly supplied in the area of finances and material goods.
John 3:16, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Philippians 4:6-8, 2 Timothy 1:7, 2 Corinthians 9:6-15, Deuteronomy 28:1-14
MARRIAGE AND SEXUAL RELATIONS
We believe that God’s will for marriage, as clearly set forth in the Scriptures, is between one man and one woman. We shall not sanction or conduct any marriage between persons of the same gender. God instituted marriage between one male and one female for the propagation of the human race, the foundation of the family, and the basic structure of human society. For this reason, homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, and pornography are sinful perversions of God’s gift of sex between a man and a woman in marriage. These “sexual preferences or alternative lifestyles” are unnatural, sinful, unacceptable to God, and inconsistent with the Christian life.
Romans 1:22-27, 1 Thessalonians 4:3-6, Hebrews 13:4
THE RETURN OF OUR LORD AND THE RESURRECTION OF THE JUST
We believe that Jesus Christ is coming again and everyone who has eternal life will be gathered together to Him.
Acts 1:11, 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18
HELL AND ETERNAL RETRIBUTION
We believe that anyone who physically dies without accepting the atoning work of Jesus Christ and being born again is still in his sins and therefore eternally lost and without hope. We believe they will be cast into the Lake of Fire which is an eternal punishment for all who have rejected God.
Mark 9:43-44, Revelation 20:11-15
